Write to Premier Gladys Berejiklian & Transport Minister Andrew Constance asking them to justify why 9 stations deserve losing all trains to City

Restore Inner West Line (Liverpool via Regents Park) & Save T3 Bankstown Line rally at Regents Park with Tania Mihailuk (Member for Bankstown) and Luke Foley (Member for Auburn)

Converting 'Sydenham - Bankstown' to Metro is designed to fatten the wallets of property developers at the expense of the community

Cutting the Bankstown Line in half disconnects 9 stations between Berala - Carramar - Yagoona from the rest of Sydney

1 DIRECT train will become up to 3 SEPARATE trains

Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar, Birrong, Yagoona

Travel times to City will increase (on average 2 minutes in peak and 6 minutes off peak) with the Bankstown Metro interchange for the 9 stations

Travel times to City will increase 17 minutes for Cabramatta, Warwick Farm, Liverpool and Casula commuters

The Bankstown Line deserves to remain as a heavy rail line with the 'advanced signalling upgrade' announced for the T4 Illawarra Line and the T8 Airport Line that will enable trains to run every 2 - 3 minutes without being converted to Metro. Gladys Berejiklian's own Sydney Rail Future master-plan states that the Sydney Trains bottleneck isn't on the Bankstown Line but the "Western and North Shore Line"

The Sydenham to Bankstown Metro must now be scrapped given 91% of the community opposes the project

Restoring trains from Bankstown and Liverpool to City via Regents Park (Inner West Line) is also equally as important for South West Sydney

Upgraded signalling on the Sydney Trains network allows for a train every 3 minutes compared to a train every 4 minutes on Sydney Metro

We support EcoTransit's proposal for the Metro South from Sydenham to Miranda instead of converting 10 stations on the Bankstown Line

Statement regarding Planning Department approval for Sydenham to Bankstown Metro - Wednesday 19 December 2018

Despite overwhelming opposition from residents in the Sydenham to Bankstown corridor and also west of Bankstown, this government is determined to isolate 9 stations from the entire Sydney Trains network.  It's not just a matter of 1 additional interchange but for commuters such as from Chester Hill to Town Hall, the current direct train will become 3 separate trains with changes at Bankstown and Sydenham.

Travel times will increase for the 19,000 commuters west of Bankstown will have to catch 3 trains everyday to reach the City.  The 9 stations west of Bankstown have been suffering since the government's removal of the Inner West Line (City to Liverpool/Bankstown via Regents Park) in 2013 and the cutting in half of the T3 Bankstown Line is a further downgrade.

We condemn Planning Minister Anthony Roberts and the NSW Government for ignoring the community in proceeding with the "Sydenham to Bankstown" Metro Southwest. We call on both sides of government to cancel this project and commit to a restoration of the Inner West Line to Liverpool (and Bankstown) via Regents Park on the Sydney Trains heavy rail network.
