We are concerned with recent NSW Government announcements regarding Berala.
The Department of Planning has confirmed that the Transport Oriented Development program will see 9,200 new dwellings constructed in Berala.
However, the Department of Planning has also discreetly published a Transport for NSW plan entitled Greater Parramatta Underground Rail Corridors (published in June 2024) with a future rail network map without the T6 Lidcombe and Bankstown Line.
Berala is currently serviced by the T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line and the T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line with a total of 8 trains per hour (4 on each line) in peak.
It should be noted that internal Transport for NSW advice to the Department of Planning has indicated that Berala has no capacity to support housing growth.
We support Transport Oriented Development where the genuine transport services exist.
