On 30 April 2024, Transport for NSW announced a new rail map for the Inner West Line and Bankstown Line to be implemented from mid-2024.
Major changes for West of Bankstown:
"City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park" temporarily restored as a result of the Restore Inner West Line community campaign.
"City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park" renamed as T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line.
Bankstown to Lidcombe shuttle introduced as new T6 Bankstown Line.
No direct trains from Birrong and Yagoona to Central or Liverpool.
Liverpool to Bankstown trains removed with commuters to interchange at Regents Park.
Bankstown to Sydenham closed with replacement Southwest Link buses.
Changed Travel Examples:
Birrong to Town Hall - single train with 2 direct lines (2012), single train with 1 direct line (2013 - 2024), 0 trains and 0 lines from mid-2024.
Birrong and Yagoona previously had both Inner West Line and Bankstown providing direct trains to Central, but will now have NO TRAINS to Central from mid-2024.
Chester Hill to Canterbury - single train with 1 direct line (2023), 2 trains and 1 bus/metro over 3 separate lines from mid-2024.
Chester Hill commuters will have to interchange at Regents Park (from train to train), and then interchange again at Bankstown (from train to bus/metro).
The long term future of rail in the West of Bankstown remains uncertain after the opening of Sydney Metro Southwest and in the NSW Future Transport Strategy as Transport for NSW is considering plans to again remove Sydney Trains between Lidcombe - Cabramatta - Bankstown.

Without the "Bankstown to City via Regents Park" trains, Birrong and Yagoona will be without a train to Central.
Capacity exists on the Sydney Trains Network for 4 direct trains per hour from Bankstown to City via Regents Park in the 2024 timetable but Transport for NSW is forcing all commuters to interchange at Lidcombe.
