The Save T3 Bankstown Line community action group is disappointed that the NSW Government refuses to honour its commitment to Southwest Sydney commuters to maintain Sydney Train services during the July school holidays.
Planning approval for Sydney Metro City & Southwest was granted on the condition that no closures of the T3 Bankstown Line would occur in July. Not only has the NSW Government failed to comply with such condition, stations in the West of Bankstown area not receiving Sydney Metro are impacted by the suspension of Sydney Trains including Birrong, Yagoona, and Lidcombe Station.
Thousands of commuters from Sydenham to Birrong will be forced onto buses during the coldest month of the year and be forced to interchange to travel to Central, City Circle, and the Inner West.
Despite the NSW Parliament Inquiry into Sydenham to Bankstown line conversion Report (2020) recommending that Sydney Metro not proceed beyond Sydenham and significant improvements to community consultation be undertaken, the T3 Bankstown Line community especially residents from the West of Bankstown area continue to be neglected.
The Save T3 Bankstown Line community action group calls on Transport Minister David Elliot and Premier Dominic Perrottet to end the Sydney Metro project at Sydenham, and ensure that all existing T3 Bankstown Line stations have direct trains to City Circle and the Inner West.
Residents from Birrong and Yagoona also deserve answers from Transport for NSW into the long term future provision of train services with NSW Government planning documents indicating that stations West of Bankstown will be closed after Sydney Metro Southwest opens.
Fight back against cuts to services! Southwest Sydney deserves better! www.SaveT3.org/restoreinnerwestline
